What is an E-Cigarette?

An e-cigarette (or e-cig) is an alternative to the cigarette, providing small amounts of the chemical nicotine with each inhalation.

The device takes the form of a tiny rod which is slightly longer than a normal cigarette. The mouthpiece of the device contains a replaceable cartridge filled with liquid. The main substances contained in the liquid are nicotine, propylene glycol, and optional flavours or aromas.

How Does it work?

When you inhale through the device, the air flow is detected by a sensor. A microprocessor then activates an atomizer, which injects tiny droplets of the liquid into the flowing air and vapourises the nicotine. This produces a vapor mist which is inhaled. The addition of propylene glycol to the liquid makes the mist better resemble normal cigarette smoke. The microprocessor also activates an orange, blue, or green LED at the tip to simulate real smoking.

Why does it work?

Smoking addiction is more than just nicotine addiction, though that is a large portion. It can be broken down into 3 sections. Addiction, oral fixation, and habit. The e-cig covers all three areas. You get the same type of oral fixation you do with a normal cigarette by inhaling and exhaling the vapor similar to smoke. You are able to maintain your habit of smoking in the car, at your computer, after a meal, or any other activity in which you typically smoke afterwards. Most importantly though the nicotine is delivered to your body in the same manner as a cigarette, through the alveoli (air sacs) in your lungs which provides the quick nicotine "fix" unlike patches, gum, or even the inhaler. How do the ingredients compare to traditional cigarettes?

The number of ingredients in E-cigarettes and the outcome of those ingredients when used are vastly different and safer than those found in traditional cigarettes. It contains only water, propylene glycol, nicotine, a scent that emulates a tobacco flavor and a membrane to suspend the ingredients. None of these ingredients are considered cancer-causing agents. The Food and Drug Administration deems propylene glycol safe. Nicotine itself is not believed to have carcinogenic effects and can be found in pepper, tomato, eggplant and potato. Is the E-cigarette a smoking cessation device?

No, in the USA and many countries the E-cigarette has not and probably will not be deemed a smoking cessation device for several reasons. It completely mimicks the smoking experience, when you inhale with the e-cigarete the nicotine is directly administered to your lungs. This provides a similiar "quick fix" you get from the first hit of a real cigarette, unlike nicotine gum, patches or lozenges. How to care for your Electronic Cigarette

• Never use the E-Cigarette why the cartridge is dry.  It will destroy the atomizer.
• The only acceptable time to drip liquid directly onto the atomizer is after cleaning it and letting it dry.
• If, while inhaling, the vapor tastes like burnt cloth refill the cartridge immediately.
• When refilling your cartridges, fill it till just before a puddle of liquid forms on the top.  If you overfill you may get liquid in your mouth when you inhale the first couple drags.
• Clean your atomizer at least once a week.  Do so by running it under warm/hot water and then letting it dry overnight.
• Discard or clean cartridges that become dark brown.  Clean by running under hot water and letting it dry overnight
• Do not leave the E-cigarette batteries or cartridges in places below freezing or above 120F.  Excessive heat or cold can harm your batteries and cartridges.
• Do not continue to use the device if the atomizer becomes very hot, give it time to cool down or you may destroy the atomizer.
• Do not continue to use a battery if it becomes hot.  Either throw it away, or contact vaporstix.com if still under warranty.
• NEVER COVER THE HOLE ON THE ATOMIZER WHEN USING!  YOU STAND A GOOD CHANCE OF KILLING IT!
   

Things you should know about your Electronic Cigarette

 

• The average lifespan of a DSE-901 atomizer is approximately 2 months.   It is wise to always have a spare atomizer at home!
• The average e-smoker will use 2ml of liquid a day
• The DSE-901 battery should last for approx. 2-3 hours of use.
• DSE-901 Batteries will need to be replaced about every 2 months. 
  Depending on use, this may very. Please dispose of old batteries properly
